GoG: Movies

Salt (2010) PG-13

Each week, we view a movie we either haven’t seen before or one we are interested in watching again for the sake of making a review.  We watch the movie independently and write our personal reviews.  We then combine those reviews for your viewing pleasure.  The average of our two ratings is calculated and becomes the official GoG: Movies Rating™.  We welcome and look forward to your comments and arguments both for and against the movies we review.

Tim’s Review:

I’m actually really excited to review this movie.  Currently available for instant view on Netflix, Salt has to be one of the best films I’ve watched in a while.  Angelina Jolie plays a CIA agent who goes on the run after a defector accuses her of being a Russian spy. (Thanks IMDB)  While Jolie has done several action/adventure movies in the past, they tend to be silly or campy i.e. the Tomb Raider series, or funny/silly i.e. that one she did with Brad Pitt, Mr. & Mrs. Smith.  In Salt, Jolie successfully pulled off a serious role in a well written story.

The movie’s Action is intense and largely believable,  the story is compelling and, to my surprise, held up very well to the very end.  I would compare Salt to the Bourne series, and I have to say that it is at least as good, which really surprised me considering I didn’t even know it existed until a few days ago.  I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who likes a good action/adventure  film with several slick plot twists, and Salt is already on my ‘watch again’ list.

Jeff’s Review:

This movie was actually one of two “In-Flight” movies offered to me on my flight from Spain, returning to the U.S. I had never heard of this movie and given that it was already being aired in flight I assumed the worst. Also, I’m generally not a big fan of Angelina Jolie with the possible exception of Mr. & Mrs. Smith. That said, I was not anticipating much of a great movie.
I was wrong.

P.S. Hey Tim, I told you so!
