GoG: Movies Week 3 Zombieland

Zombieland (2009) R

Each week, we view a movie we either haven’t seen before or one we are interested in watching again for the sake of making a review.  We watch the movie independently and write our personal reviews.  We then combine those reviews for your viewing pleasure.  The average of our two ratings is found and becomes the official GoG: Movies Rating™.  We welcome and look forward to your comments and arguments both for and against the movies we do.

Tim’s Review:

“My momma always told me, “Some day, you’ll be good at something.”

That’s right, zombie killing!

This week we watched the horror-comedy, Zombieland.  Generally, I’m not a huge fan of horror movies.  But, when you include slapstick antics sprinkled with some witty, well-placed dry humor, I’m in.  This is our second Jessie Eisenberg movie.  I’d almost say he was better here than his newest film, but I suspect I liked the writing more than the actual acting.  If there were ever a good role for Woody Harrelson, a wild-eyed, zombie killing looney who’s only want is to find a twinkie is IT.  And the icing on the cake: of course I speak of the goofy yet oh so tragic character of Bill Murray, played by -yup- Bill Murray.

I’d seen this flick before and loved it.  I was worried that it wouldn’t hold up to my original impression about it, and it passed with flying colors.  I laughed and laughed, I like the characters, and I love the silly, yet dry humor.  It’s a fun, head shaking ride, and the funny one-liners alone are enough to keep me coming back.  As far as my rating goes: the movie is an easy 3.5 stars.  But with the fun humor and re-watchability, I’ll go so far as saying that it ‘eeks in’ at four stars!

Jeff’s Review:

“You want to know the best thing about Z-land? No- no Facebook status updates. You know, Rob Curtis is gearing up for Friday. Who cares?”

I’ve often wanted to live in a zombieland type world…. You know, without the zombies of course. Grab any vehicle…roll to BM’s house…crackout to ghostbusters… shoot guns. Just seems like a good time.

Remember; Rule 4: Doubletap. One bullet more in the head will go a long way to ensuring your survival.

A movie that can be watched over and over.
