Day Before the First Flight

A close friend of GoG, Dan Zirkle is embarking on an exciting endeavor to earn his pilot’s license.  We at believe that this will be an amazing adventure, and want to openly wish Dan the best of luck.  We can think of few more awesome challenges, and even fewer accomplishments, of which,  we would be more jealous.  We are excited and honored to to host Dan’s new blog about his adventures in flight.

Day Before the First Flight

Thank you Tim and Jeff for the invite and the warm welcome!

Tomorrow I take my first flight lesson on my way to getting my pilot’s license.  I’ve wanted to fly ever since I was a small child.  It’s the first occupation I can remember ever wanting to pursue.  Back then I wanted to be a fighter pilot.  At this point all I want is to get into the sky.

As the hours tick past the anticipation is building.  I’ve got butterflies in my stomach and I keep staring off into space imagining soaring through the clouds like a bird.

Along with the excitement of flying is the thought of the opportunities a pilot’s license will give me.  I’m going to take my boys some evenings and fly to WV just to have dinner with my parents.  I’m going to take vacations where I fly us to our destination.  Wanna go camping at Yellowstone?  Wanna ski in Colorado?  Wanna go to Disney?  Wanna visit Vancouver Canada?  It’s all within reach and my reach is going to be a lot longer.  I can’t wait to see the look of wonder on my boy’s faces the first time we take a trip. Or heck, the first time I take them into the sky!

Oh man, I’m not sure I’m going to be able to sleep tonight.  The anticipation is just too much!
