Back on our feet…

Tuesday, March 29  2011

Tim here.  If you’ve been with us before, thanks for your patience while we’ve been idle for the past few days as we had to handle some technical issues.  I want to assure you that we plan on hitting the ground running with new updates and a few new extras that we’ll get into later.  Now, if you are new to our site,  I can’t tell you how excited I am to have you visit our humble site.  I hope you enjoy your stay, and you are more than welcome to join in the conversation.  Let us know what you think, and invite your friends to do the same.  Now on to some news.

What Happened?

Last week, we were targeted by a hacker.  Technically, it was a defacing hack.  What that means is the hacker used a program that broke into our account, changed passwords or just deleted accounts all together and changed our main page to a banner announcing that the site had been hacked, along with some other announcements in a language I cannot read.  If you were unlucky enough to have seen it, I’m very sorry.  I can’t tell you how horrified I was to load up the site and not only see it gone, but for there to be something else in its place.  The company that provides our servers worked closely with us to take down the malicious bits as quickly as possible.  I really can’t thank Just Host enough; they’ve been right there at every step in this ordeal.  They have a great team, and are super quick to address our problems.  Since getting back control of the site, we’ve pretty much spent most of the past few days reworking our security, scanning machines, and just making every effort to ensure the site is clean and safe for your viewing pleasure.

I’m happy to announce that we are back up to 100% and are excited to be running again and excited about our current projects, as well as some new ones.

What’s New?

Well, If you haven’t already figured it out, you are reading the very first edition of GetOnGround’s official Blog.  We’ve been struggling to find the best way to talk directly to our viewers about news of what’s going on with GoG and our team, but not directly related to our regular columns.  We’ve done ‘big news’ posts before, but they are unwieldy, and we’d prefer something more streamlined and centralized for us to share news on a regular basis.  So, now we offer to you the getonground Blog.  Here, we will do our best to keep you up to date with more of the behind the scenes news involving the site.

To top off this new announcement, we have gone out of our way to make it easy to be able to find the new blog.  It will always be right below our Featured Stories section in the <dramatic pause> That’s right folks, the “Editor’s Blogs” section!  Yep, you’ve read it right, and it does in fact mean that more blogs are in the works.  So Stay Tuned!

On behalf of Jeff, myself, and the rest of the GoG Team, thank you so much for reading, visiting and supporting us; we couldn’t do it without you.

-Tim

And I thought comment issues were bad! Glad you made it through alive!

@Sam, It wasn’t fun, but was at least a learning experience.
